Steven Martin Cohen is a scientist, engineer, inventor, artist, humorist, and writer.

Author of Becker's Ring (Crown Publishers and Warner Books), Seven Shades of Black (Warner Books), Toy Inventor, Katherine's Bosom, The Watermark, Screw the Planet, Urban e-tiquette, and coauthored Caverns of the Shawangunk and its Environs, Southeastern New York, published by the National Speleological Society. His books have been published in Italy, England, Japan, and Romania.

Writing mentor in the Mystery Writers of America. Articles have appeared in The South Shore Record as well as various newsletters, speleological publications within the caving community, and on line. Presently writing several books and screenplays.

Makes kinetic sculpture and performs laser light shows. Has hosted and co-hosted radio and cable television shows.

BSME from The Cooper Union, strong background in physics and mathematics, mechanical and electrical engineering.

Commercial product and toy inventor and holds several U.S. and world patents for products using mechanisms, digital music, electronics, speech synthesis, thermal control, and optics.

Designed a line of vibratory conveyors and extruders for the macaroni industry, designed components in electrical and mechanical fuzing systems for ballistic warheads, tank guns, and bazookas, and has worked on inertial platforms used in navigation systems for warships and fighter planes. Has done mathematical modeling of complicated systems, computer programming and algorithm design, and consulted for both the military and commercial sectors. Designed hundreds of digital and analog circuits used in experimental prototypes, music synthesizers, commercial products, and toys. Designed countless mechanisms. Did the thermal engineering and electrical design of conductive ink-based heated clothing and their electronic controllers for numerous lines of electrically heated jackets, vests, hats, and gloves. Has designed low flow energy harvesting systems and other fluid powered machines. Has designed and performed numerous tests on mechanical and electrical systems. Writes patents and helps lawyers with litigation and office actions.

Excellent with tools and does professional model making and prototyping of mechanisms, circuits, and electro-mechanical systems.

Explores, maps, and gets lost in caves all over the country, and enjoys skiing, camping, hiking, and fishing. Loves gourmet food and fine wine.
