Gila Berkowitz

Gila Berkowitz is an Israeli-born author and journalist whose work is shaped by history and current events. Her new book, From the River: a Novel of Jewish Resistance, is a dystopic thriller following a Palestinian takeover of Israel and the subsequent revolt. From the River is coming in October 2026 from Wicked Son Books.

The daughter of Holocaust survivors, she was raised in Brooklyn’s Hasidic community, where she developed a passion for storytelling, memory, and identity.

Her career has taken her from the front lines of the Middle East, where she reported for Reuters and the Los Angeles Times, to the pages of a wide range of national magazines. She has written on subjects as varied as world affairs, science, medicine, and culture, bringing a reporter’s eye and a novelist’s sensitivity to every project.

In addition to her writing, Gila is a frequent speaker on Israel, antisemitism, and Holocaust remembrance, with a particular focus on the roles and experiences of women. She lives in Jerusalem with her husband and divides her time between Israel and New York.
