I wanted to be an artist, but reality dictated that I earn a living other ways. After obtaining a PhD in political science from the University of Illinois, I began a series of jobs that ultimately led me to positions in the US Department of State in Washington. This was great because it enabled me to travel the world as well as to learn the ways of governmental bureaucracies. I became an expert in arms control and defense affairs, which led to my writing my first nonfiction work, Doomsday Weapons In The Hands of Many. I have since published three additional non-fiction books on arms control issues.
In addition to the books on arms control issues, I have published three other books. The most recent is Filming An Indie: A Diary of Making Revenge In Kind. This volume describes my experiences in making a feature length film from my screenplay. When I assembled a group of film artists to make the movie, I expected turmoil, excitement, and reward. I wasn’t disappointed. Making a film with a group of strangers you are unlikely to ever see again is a unique experience that reveals the best and worst of people. But it is like a group hike in the desert—you have to do your part to get through it. It was a fascinating time and I think the book captures the magic of it.
Revenge In Kind was first a screenplay, but I also self-published it as a novella. In addition to this fiction work, I published Death For Cause, a whirlwind story about rogue scientists who produced biological weapons. Filming An Indie and the two fiction works are published under the pen name K. C. Bailey.
