Brian Wildsmith, 1930-2016, was a British painter, author and illustrator of children’s picture books. He believed passionately in the power of pictures to convey feelings and feed/nourish children’s imaginations.“Art is food for the soul,” he said. “A picture book represents a child’s very first encounter with art and my work offers a chance to communicate to children the importance of such things as kindness, compassion, friendship and beauty.’’
