Oogie lives on the outskirts of Halloween Town, he is both feared and detested for his ghastly nature, cannibalistic appetite, and rivalry with the Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington. This storyboard drawing was rendered by Disney artist Jorgen Klubien in graphite and ink on 11â x 8.5â paper. Storyboards are â must-haveâ for collectors of animation art. In this 4 panel storyboard, you have Oogie Boogie in panel one with a snake coming from his eye, and the snake is chasing an insect. In panel two, the snake is about to grasp and eat the insect, in panel 3 the snake has eaten the insect and Oogie Boogie now sucking in the snakeÂâ Sucks In Snakeâ Âis written below the panel, and in panel four Oogie Boogie saysÂâ Slurpâ , â Ma Spaghetti!â The storyboarding process, in the form it is known today, was developed at Walt Disney Studios during the early 1930s, after several years of similar processes being in use at Walt Disney and other animation studios. This piece was created for the memorable black light musical number â Oogie Boogieâ s Songâ , seen near the 48:30 mark of the film. Essential in the process of creating effective storytelling for the final product, Jorgen Klubienâ s impact on the narrative canâ t be understated, and his impact on the film is showcased in his remarkable storyboards. The Nightmare Before Christmas originated in a poem written by Tim Burton in 1982, while he was working as an animator at Walt Disney Feature Animation. Production started in July 1991 in San Francisco; Disney released the film through its Touchstone Pictures banner because the studio believed the film would be â too dark and scary for kidsâ . The film was met with both critical and financial success, grossing over $76 million during its initial run. This stop-motion masterpiece was the first animated film to receive an Academy Award Nomination for Best Visual Effects!
