About this Item
Original stone lithograph completed by Stow Wengenroth in Eastport, Maine in October 1932 and published in an edition limited to 50 impressions. SIGNED in pencil by Wengenroth. There were no subsequent editions. Image size is 8 1/8 inches by 12 1/2 inches. This is number 30 in Stuckey's catalogue raisonné of Wengenroth's lithographs. Like many of the artist's earliest lithographs, "Three Trees" has both a brooding atmosphere and a feel of softness (almost like a soft ground etching)--both qualities that characterize his highly sought after images of New York City. Although he later worked in watercolors, Wengenroth is best known for his black and white lithographs. Andrew Wyeth once said that Stow Wengenroth was "America's greatest living artist working in black and white." His lithographs can be found in the collections of most major American art museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Size: 8 1/2" X 12 1/2". Seller Inventory # W1861
