Copperplate engraving and etching on a verge type hand laid paper with watermark. Authenticity 100% guaranteed. on paper. Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 33.1 x 27.4 cm. The image size is ca. 27.5 x 21.6 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 13 x 10.8 inch. The image size is ca. 10.8 x 8.5 inch.Plate: 'Coichin'. (Koichi.) This plate shows a man and woman from Koichi, India. The man is smoking a pipe and carries weapons, the woman holds a basket with fruit. Ships in the background. This plate originates from the very scarse: 'La galerie agreable du monde (ΓΆβ Β¦). Tome premier des Indes Orientales.', published by P. van der Aa, Leyden, c. 1725. This famous work was published in 66 parts and is the biggest print / map book ever published. Van der Aa incorporated plates by other publishers such as Blaeu, Visscher, de Wit, meurs, Halma, Mortier, Allard in this work and often added broad decorative borders. Probably the costliest and complete universal geographic work ever produced. It is said that only 100 copies were printed. Ref: Koeman Aa9. Phillips 2780 note. This plate was originally published by Carolus Allard as part of his: 'Orbis habitabilis oppida et vestitus (.).', in Amsterdam c. 1698. The costume plates in this work are engraved by Aldert Meijer.Artists and Engravers: Pieter van der Aa (Leiden 1659-1733) was a Dutch publisher best known for preparing maps and atlases. The Galerie Agreable contains plates and maps by the best Dutch engravers: Luiken, Goeree, Mulder, Stoopendaal, ao.Condition: Excellent. Margins cropped close to the image edge. Print attached to carrier. General age related toning and minimal staining from handling.
