Heliogravüre, Kalte Nadel und Vernis mou, auf festem Bütten. 23,5:15,5 cm. Literatur: Mascha 992, III (von IV), die Randeinfälle des 2. Zustandes entfernt, mit neuen Retuschen mit Grat. Stehendes junges Mädchen mit breitem Hut legt die Rechte auf ein großes Buch, das die Inschrift «Félicien Rops» trägt und hält in der Linken einen langen Zeichenstift. Rechts oben die Inschrift «I faut que je me réjouisse». Rops war einer der bedeutendsten Graphiker und Illustratoren seiner Zeit. Nach einer Erziehung durch Privatlehrer ging der Sohn eines Textilfabrikanten an das Jesuitenkolleg in Namur. 1849 wurde er vom Kolleg verwiesen, in diesem Jahr verstarb sein Vater, ging dann an das Königliche Athenäum in Namur, schrieb sich jedoch auch gegen den Willen seines später verhaßten Vormunds an der dortigen Académie des Beaux-Arts ein, wo er Aktkurse besuchte. 1853 setzte er sein Studium an der Universität in Brüssel fort, wo er zudem das freie Atelier Saint-Luc besuchte. Ab 1856 gründete er zusammen mit seinem Freund Ch. de Coster (1827-1879) die Zeitschrift L'Uylenspiegel, journal des débats littéraires et artistiques, für die er bis 1857 Illustrationen schuf, meist Karikaturen. Nach der Verheiratung mit Charlotte Polet de Faveaux, der Tochter des Gerichtspräsidenten von Namur, lebte er abwechselnd in seiner Geburtsstadt und im Sommer auf Schloß Thozée bei Mettet, wo ihn auch zahlreiche Künstlerfreunde besuchten; später kamen noch Paris und Brüssel als ständig wechselnde Aufenthaltsorte hinzu. 1868 war er Mitbegründer der Société des Beaux Arts". 1869 verliebte er sich in die Schwestern Léontine und Aurélie Duluc, zwei junge Modeschöpferinnen, mit denen er ab 1874 in Paris zusammenlebte und auch Kinder hatte. Reisen unternahm er in den nächsten Jahren an die Nordsee, nach Skandinavien, Ungarn und Spanien, in die Vereinigten Staaten und nach Nordafrika. 1888 wurde ihm der Orden der französischen Ehrenlegion verliehen. Rops hatte vor allem großen Erfolg als Illustrator, zuerst mit den Werken de Costers, dann arbeitete er auch für Baudelaire, mit dem er sich befreundete, sowie für J. Barbey d Aurevilly, St. Mallarmé, P. Verlaine, J. Péladan u.a.…

Jahrhunderts, zu Ölstudien deutscher Künstler des 19. Jahrhunderts sowie zu Gemälden und Ölstudien europäischer, vor allem deutschsprachiger Künstler des 17. bis 19. Jahrhunderts. The programme of the gallery includes special exhibitions of single artists as well as genre exhibitions, but main emphasis is put on carefully investigated descriptions of fine European drawings and graphic works of art from the 16th to the beginning of the 20th century, of oil sketches by German artists of the 19th century and of paintings and oil sketches by European, mainly German-speaking artists of the 17th to 19th century. If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to Galerie Joseph Fach GmbH, Oberursel im Taunus, Germany, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
