About this Item
A lovely hand coloured aquatint of "The Milk-Woman" selling her milk in the street of London. Plate 24 from W.H. Pyne's "Costume of Gt Britain" 1805. This print is dated at base with publishers details. there is the page of letterpress also sold with this. The yoke was to enable her to carry more, believed to be a female only trade in the time of Edward the VIIth and they were termed "Milk-Wives". THe letterpress describes profits, where in London the farms were and the farmers stock of cows. Stitch holes seen at right hand edge, but good margins, not been trimmed, clean and bright example.
