The print titled "Whitehall Chapel", published in Old England: A Pictorial Museum of Regal, Ecclesiastical, Municipal, Baronial, and Popular Antiquities (1845) by James Sangster and Co. under the editorial oversight of Charles Knight, is a hand-colored lithograph that illustrates the opulent and richly decorated interior of the Banqueting House chapel at Whitehall Palace. Rendered by the Leighton Brothers, known for their precise architectural and historical lithography, the scene showcases the chapel s majestic Baroque ceiling designed by Inigo Jones and painted by Sir Peter Paul Rubens, which celebrates the divine right of kings a political and religious ideology central to Stuart monarchy. The ceiling panels, visible in the print, are elaborately ornamented with allegorical figures and gilded detailing, forming one of the most celebrated ceilings in Britain. The walls of the chapel are adorned with deep red velvet draperies, creating a regal atmosphere, while the upper gallery is supported by ornately carved classical pilasters and brackets.
