About this Item

[No date, circa 1950s] Original handsome and easily recognizable portrait drawing of Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor, drawn from life by New York artist Jack Rosen. India ink on white watermarked paper, 8 x 11 inches, with a light green watercolor background. [Un-framed.] "by the distinguished caricature-artist Jack Rosen" and "Waldorf-Towers office" in pencil on reverse (probably in Rosen's humble hand). Signed by Rosen as JACK on Edward's shoulder and Signed Edward in blue ink at lower left. The late Jack Rosen worked for many years as Security Director at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC where he often met and escorted prominent guests to their rooms, making sketches of them and having them autograph the finished portraits, which he sometimes gave as gifts to friends, many of which can be seen at Jack's Place Restaurant in Orlando Florida. This portrait is of Edward VIII Duke of Windsor, who with his wife Wallis Simpson usually stayed at their Waldorf Towers suite during visits to New York City. A rather charming, rare, no doubt unique, portrait of the abdicated King of England SIGNED Edward. Bookseller Inventory # J507P2
