State: Second state of 3 Ref: New Hollstein 327 Provenance: Joseph d'Osse, Leffe (Not in Lugt) Mary Magdalene. Engraving on Laid paper. Made by 'Johannes Wierix' after 'Gerard van Groeningen'. Johannes Wierix (1549-ca. 1620) worked in Antwerp for publishers like Hieronymus Cock and Plantin. He trained many engravers like Hendrik Hondius. Gerard van Groeningen (active ca. 1561-1576) worked in Antwerp. Fair, given age. No margins, with two small oilstains. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
