l'Heureux passageEtching / engraving on Hand laid (verge) paper. Watermark: DGI (lettering). Sheet size: 31,5 x 25,3 cm. (12,4 x 10 inch). Image size: 29,5 x 23 cm. (11,6 x 9,1 inch).Age estimate 1780.Made by Levaseur after Vernet. Jean-Charles Le Vasseur / Levasseur / Levaseur (1734-1816) was a French engraver from Abbeville, student of Jacques-Firmin Beauvarlet and later Jean Daulle. He was accepted to the Academy and became Royal engraver in 1771. Claude-Joseph Vernet (1714 - 1789) was a French painter, especially of landscapes and marines. Trained at Avignon; active at Aix-en-Provence, Rome, Paris.Condition: Good, given age. Trimmed at plate edge. Small stain at bottom left. In 2018 he decided to further develop his personal collection through 'Pictura Prints'. Peter has a background in design and landscape architecture and holds a degree in paper restauration. He holds shop in Overasselt, a small town on the Maas river near Nijmegen, The Netherlands, which can be visited by appointment. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Antiquarians (NVVA) and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB).
