Copperplate engraving on verge type hand laid paper with watermark. on paper. Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 32 x 26 cm. The image size is ca. 28.5 x 21 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 12.6 x 10.2 inch. The image size is ca. 11.2 x 8.3 inch.Plate : 'Gezicht op 's Lands Werf en de Stad Rotterdam .'. (View of the wharf and the city of Rotterdam.) Very rare proof of a copper engraving showing a view of Rotterdam Harbour, with ships and in the background the 18th c. city with the St. Laurens Church and the Zeemagazijn. A large ship and smaller boats can be seen. This scarse print belongs to a series of 4 prints by Bendorp after Groenewegen dedicated to Rotterdam. Date c. 1779 or later.Artists and Engravers: Engraved by K.F. Bendorp after the Rotterdam painter Gerrit Groenewegen. Groenewegen (1754-1826) is known for his drawings and paintings of marine themes and ships. The earliest prints date from 1779.Condition: Excellent. general age related toning. some light staining from handling. In 2018 he decided to further develop his personal collection through 'Pictura Prints'. Peter has a background in design and landscape architecture and holds a degree in paper restauration. He holds shop in Overasselt, a small town on the Maas river near Nijmegen, The Netherlands, which can be visited by appointment. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Antiquarians (NVVA) and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB).

We ship worldwide and package our items meticulously. We carry an umbrella insurance policy. Our shipment rates are based on shipments up to 1 kg. For heavier shipments we will contact you with a quote. Currently our surcharge for international shipments over 1 kg is 9,14 euro / kg. In addition POST NL temporarly charges 3,60 euro per kg due to CORONA related logistics. We ship by registered mail through POST NL.
