The image size is ca. 14.4 x 9.4 inch.Antique map, titled: 'Breda novis operibus post spinolae adventum munita', it shows ('Breda overshadowed by the new fortifications after the arrival of Spinola'), a plan of the Dutch city of Breda with its new fortifications as installed after the arrival of Spinola. This print originates from the 1629 latin ed. of Herman Hugo's 'Obsidis Bredana, sub Ambrosio Spinola', first published in Antwerp in 1626. English ed. in 1627. This is an eye-witness account of the ten-month siege of the fortress of Breda in 1625 by Spanish forces led by Spinola.Artists and Engravers: The author of this work is Herman Hugo (1588-1629). He was a Jesuit priest, writer and military chaplain. His is best known for his spiritual emblem book 'Pia Desideria'. Artist and engraver for this work unknown, to be determined. Published by Balthasar Moretus at the Plantin Press.Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold. Faint stains in margin. In 2018 he decided to further develop his personal collection through 'Pictura Prints'. Peter has a background in design and landscape architecture and holds a degree in paper restauration. He holds shop in Overasselt, a small town on the Maas river near Nijmegen, The Netherlands, which can be visited by appointment. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Antiquarians (NVVA) and the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers (ILAB).

In addition POST NL temporarly charges 3,60 euro per kg due to CORONA related logistics. We ship by registered mail through POST NL.
