Original copper engraving, with recent hand colouring, printed on a verge type handlaid paper. Description: This attractive ichthyological print originates from "Tableau Encyclopedique et Methodique des Trois Regnes de la Nature", the volume on Ichtchyologie. This massive work was made by l'Abbe Pierre Joseph Bonnaterre, and published in Paris by Panckoucke in 1788.Artists and Engravers: Abbe Pierre Joseph Bonnaterre (1752-1804) was a French naturalist. He added copious portions on mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, and fish to the Encyclopedie Methodique. In total he created around 400 illustrations for this work. Bonnaterre is credited with 25 new species of fish. Condition: Excellent, given age. General age-related toning and/or occasional light soiling from handling. Please study scan carefully.
