Add to basketAn amazing original paint tool chest measuring approximately 31 1/4 x 10 1/4 (H) x 9 1/4 (D) inches and weighing just under 17 pounds. Interior tray and underside of top stamped EA Brown, the latter as pictured. Inscription on inner left appears to be Feb 1, 1891 EA Brown but the month and day may be different. In remarkable shape and closes completely. Impressive construction with all original corner brackets. Last origin was north central Indiana. Genealogical research is challenging based on the common name but there was a 30 year old carpenter named Erasmus Brown (no middle initial) who lived in Ravenna, Muskegon County, Michigan based on the 1880 census. The E.T. Burrowes Company was incorporated in the state of Maine, and was primarily a maker of a sliding wire screen patented in 1878. The company also manufactured tools used to install the screen including a sliding and folding rule patented March 24, 1891. Burrowes made one plane in particular in large quantities, as it has frequently appeared in tool chests and collections purchased by the Liberty Tool Company. The company also made furniture items such as pool tables, cedar chests and old crank phonograph cabinets.
