Pero en la entrada del hoy casi olvidado verbo "acechar" senala su procedencia de un verbo latino que significaba "seguir, perseguir". Asi pues, ademas de mirar a escondidas (accion del voyeur), Al acecho conlleva un matiz cinegetico indudable y, por ello, se utiliza para designar una cierta forma de cazar. Conviene decir esto para comprender a Antonio, protagonista de esta novela, que acecha a sus jovenes presas en tiempos de represion y de opresion, ansioso por conseguirlas y excitado como un cazador en su espera. Y es a causa de este estado de vigilia y excitacion, acentuado aun mas por el embrujo de la noche en que la accion transcurre, cuando solo la Salamanca burguesa se podia permitir hacerlo para divertirse, que nuestro protagonista entra en la oscuridad de su propio yo y alli, entre recuerdos, anhelos, percepciones y quimeras, vivira una aventura AL ACECHO, sorprendente y apasionante.
