It is said that Diogenes has not found what you need. Rudolf C. Bettschart and Daniel Keel had more luck, who found each other in childhood and thus a lifelong friendship. Even in the sandpit, Bettschart and Keel played together, they pressed the school bench next to each other, experienced joint adventures and travel as scouts and finally became business companions. Over the past 58 years they have printed the name Diogenes on nearly 200 million books and thus carried it all over the world. A friendship cannot be explained. But one thing is certain: without the one between Rudolf C. Bettschart and Daniel Keel, Diogenes Verlag would not exist in its present form. Both celebrated their 80th birthday on October 10, 2010, and at the same time a friendship that has lasted almost as long. As a tribute to this once-in-a-lifetime connection, this book is meant to gather texts from world literature on the theme of friendship. With Homer begins this anthology, which ranges from the beginnings of literature to classics such as Montaigne, Balzac or Cechov to Tomi Ungerer and Jean-Jacques Sempé."
