Why do ideas that seemed defeated continue to shape universities, media, and cultural institutions?
How did Marxism survive the collapse of the Soviet Union?
And why have language, identity, and social justice become some of the most contentious issues in contemporary society?
In Zombies of Marx: The Return of Practical Reason, Davide Smith Borrelli explores the transformation of Marxist thought through postmodernism and deconstruction, tracing the intellectual path that led from class struggle to today's cultural conflicts. Drawing on philosophy, social choice theory, political thought, and the philosophy of science, the book examines the influence of thinkers such as Jacques Derrida, Michel Foucault, Karl Popper, Friedrich Hayek, Kenneth Arrow, and Amartya Sen. It challenges the rise of ideological moralism, questions the abandonment of empirical reasoning, and defends the values of critical inquiry and intellectual freedom.
A zombie is, ultimately, a narcissist without delusions of grandeur. It does not seek truth but recognition. It survives by feeding on meanings created by others while producing nothing of its own. The zombie becomes a metaphor for ideas that persist long after the historical conditions that produced them have disappeared. Part philosophical investigation, part cultural critique, Zombies of Marx examines the intellectual legacy of postmodernism and its impact on contemporary Western culture.
This book is for those who are not afraid to question dogma and confront the conflicts shaping the modern world.
