What if your dog could explain what he was thinking?
In Zephyr’s Tale: A Poodle’s Guide to the Behavior of Dogs, a Standard Poodle named Zephyr tells the story of his life from his own point of view. Through his experiences with people, other dogs, training, travel, play, fear, friendship, and family life, Zephyr offers readers a very different way of understanding the dogs who share their lives.
Behind Zephyr’s voice is the science of animal behavior. Author Con Slobodchikoff, Ph.D., an animal behavior scientist who has spent decades studying animal communication, uses Zephyr’s story to explore how dogs communicate, how they learn, how they interpret human actions, and why they sometimes behave in ways that seem puzzling to us.
This is not a book about forcing dogs to obey. It is about learning to see the world from a dog’s perspective.
Along the way, readers discover how dogs use body language, how they form emotional bonds, how they respond to training, and how misunderstandings between people and dogs can lead to unnecessary frustration and conflict.
Warm, entertaining, and grounded in behavioral science, Zephyr’s Tale is for anyone who has ever looked into a dog’s eyes and wondered:
What is my dog really thinking?
If you love dogs and want to understand them more deeply, Zephyr has a story to tell you.
