Flora Larsson is best known for her five books of prayer poems, the first of which, "Just a Moment, Lord", was published by Hodder and Stoughton almost thirty years ago. Translated into many languages, the poems struck a chord with readers all over the world. In Norway alone, over 100,000 copies of these books have been sold. Her early writings - both poems and prose - were mostly contributions for Salvation Army periodicals, or short biographies of well-known Salvationist personalities, culminating in her major work "My Best Men are Women". This current volume contains many of her prayer poems, now regrettably out of print, together with biographical and other thought-provoking snippets culled from various sources. Selections from "Along the Way" (a column for the women's magazine "The Deliverer") can be found alongside articles written for The Salvation Army's "War Cry in Finland" under the titles "Ur Minnets Gommor (Down Memory Lane)" and "Levnadsrad (Hints for Living)". The book also contains a little material previously published in "From My Treasure Chest". Readings are arranged with a thought, a poem or a short article for each day of the year including one for leap year, 29 February. Articles relating to the movable feasts of the Christian calendar, Easter and Whitsun, will not usually fall on the right day, though the dates chosen are the commonest on which those celebrations fall throughout the next four decades! The international flavour of these writings reflects the life experience of their author. She served as a Salvation Army officer with her husband Sture, in Britain, Sweden, Denmark, Chile (with Bolivia and Peru), Argentina (with Uruguay and Paraguay), France (with Algeria), Finland and Norway (with Iceland and the Faeroes). The death of her husband in 1974 left Flora to experience 25 years of retirement alone, during which time she published four further books of prayer poems and her jottings in "From My Treasure Chest".

About the Author: Flora Larsson was a citizen of three countries, British by parentage, Argentinian by birth and Swedish by marriage. FLORA LARSSON is best known for her five books of prayer poems, the first of which, Just a Moment, Lord, was published by Hodder and Stoughton almost thirty years ago. Translated into many languages, the poems struck a chord with readers all over the world. In Norway alone, over 100,000 copies of these books have been sold. Her early writings - both poems and prose - were mostly contributions for Salvation Army periodicals, or short biographies of well-known Salvationist personalities, culminating in her major work My Best Men are Women (Hodder & Stoughton, 1981) which used William Booth's famous phrase as the hook on which to hang pen portraits of a number of significant women-officers of The Salvation Army. While serving in Scandinavia she provided many articles for the Swedish, Finnish, Danish and later the Norwegian versions of 'The War Cry'. She also served with The Salvation Army in Chile (with Bolivia and Peru), Argentina (with Uruguay and Paraguay), and France (with Algeria). For many years in Britain, both before and after retirement, she wrote a regular column 'Along the Way' for the Salvation Army women's magazine The Deliverer. In 1974 The Salvation Army published a collection of her writings, mostly prose, entitled 'From My Treasure Chest', which included her heart-rending account of her eldest son's funeral in Sweden (1943) where leukemia had claimed his life at the age of seven. In the same year that 'From My Treasure Chest' was published, Flora and her husband retired from SA service. The death of her husband, later that same year, left Flora to experience 25 years of retirement alone, during which time she continued to write and the four further books of prayer poems 'Between you and me, Lord,' 'Towards you, Lord', 'God in my everyday' and 'My God and I' were published. Flora's second son, John, is currently General of the worldwide Salvation Army, while Miriam her daughter serves with The Salvation Army in Norway.
