From the Author: Factual questions.
Several Yankee fans have commented on the statement in the book that the Yankees won seven and eight World Series in a row. I gather that what I meant wasn't clear. After mentioning that the Yankees had, as of 1977, suffered a losing streak in World Series that extended from 1963 (Dodgers), to 1964 (Cardinals), to 1976 (Reds), I stated that New York had, in the past, won as many as seven and eight series in a row, meaning those in which they played. The two streaks ran from 1927-1928-1932-1936-1937-1938-1939-1941 (8) and 1943-1947-1949-1950-1951-1952-1953 (7). Obviously, they couldn't win a World Series they didn't play in. Sorry if the confusion sent you to your record books. I would be interested to hear from anyone who finds other mistakes (and yes, I know I should have used the past tense when referring to a record that Sparky Lyle held for relief pitching that Dave Righetti now holds). Hope you enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed the season.
