Written by a Cambridge Economist and admissions consultant; a First-class Cambridge Economics graduate with offers from Cambridge, Warwick, Bristol, Nottingham and LSE, and six years spent helping students get their economics applications right. This guide is everything the admissions team looks for, written down in full.
What's inside:
Part 1 - The Essentials: what the three-question format actually is, the two criteria every sentence has to serve, and the myths that waste students' time.
Part 2 - The Method: a nine-step process from first research to final proofread, including how to turn an unrelated interest into a genuine economics point, and how to budget your 4,000 characters across all three answers.
Part 3 - Question by Question: what each of the three UCAS questions is really asking, what strong looks like, the pitfalls to avoid, and real before-and-after rewrites for each.
Part 4 - Editing & Voice: the concision toolkit: cutting clichés, tightening sentences, and freeing up characters without losing meaning.
Part 5 - Annotated Examples: six full example answers: a strong and a weak one for each question, marked up with what's working and what a tutor would flag, the same eye you'd get from a professional review.
Every example in this guide is a composite written for teaching purposes - not a real student's work, and not something to copy. The point is to show you the technique so you can apply it to your own material, because the statement has to be yours.
