This volume contains the unpublished writings of the late Joe Allmon, edited by his son, Warren. Joe Allmon grew up poor in Depression-era Mississippi, and became a Baptist minister like his father. But he suffered a crisis of faith as a young man, and switched careers to become a human resources executive, applying many of the counseling skills he had developed in the ministry. His life in corporate America, however, was unusual. As the writings collected here eloquently demonstrate, he was always in the process of becoming something else and expanding whatever mold he was in.
About the Author: Joseph T. Allmon (1921-2007) was a human resources executive for Riegel Textile Corporation for more than 30 years. He was also a former Baptist minister who became a Unitarian, a white southerner who became a progressive advocate for civil rights, and a corporation man who was always a thinker and scholar. A native of Mississippi, he was a resident of Greenville, South Carolina for most of his adult life. Warren D. Allmon is Joe Allmon's son. He is the Director of the Paleontological Research Institution in Ithaca, New York and Hunter R. Rawlings III Professor of Paleontology at Cornell University.
