This book shows how to shoot big personalities; the challenge being to capture something special and unique from celebrities who spend many of their waking hours in front of a camera or audience. Techniques workshops cover all the practical considerations. Work reflecting all aspects of celebrity and performance photography is showcased, including projects shot in studios, on sets, in theatres, on stage, and on location. Official and unofficial, reportage and staged photographs are featured, including: portraiture and cover shots; lifestyle stories for celebrity magazines; celebrity weddings; celebrity children; film unit stills photography; behind the scenes reportage; dance and opera performance and rehearsal photography; theatre promotional shots; gig photography; band portraits; head-shots; glamour photography; catwalk photography; paparazzi street photography; and, red-carpet/press conference news coverage.Image portfolios, combined with the photographers' comments on what has influenced their lighting styles and technical decisions, introduce readers to the aesthetics of celebrity and performance photography. Photographers' technical breakdowns of the lighting/composition/colour/tone/imaging they have used, and why, gives readers a thorough knowledge of appropriate equipment and techniques. Checklists and tips-and-hints panels pass on hard-won knowledge in a simple form.
