By bringing together all the diverse accomplishments of the people of Imperial Rome at this time, Dr. Michael Grant has made a fascinating contribution to our understanding of the important role Rome played in the evolution of the modern Western and Near-Eastern worlds. The Roman Empire is brought to life before our eyes as Dr. grant traces its historical background and its astounding cultural and political achievements. he describes the contradictions within the Empire - the exalted lives of the Emperors and the desperate slave revolts, the educational and social privileges of the citizens of Rome and the bloodthirsty horrors of the arena - and, paying particular attention to the Imperial provinces outside Italy, he discusses the great artistic, architectural and philosophical achievements of the Roman people. Illustrated. 363 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.).…
