London: J.Johnson (and 24 Others), 1803. This is a Very Good copy of "A New Edition, in Twenty-Four Volumes; Corrected and Revised by John Nichols, F.S.A. Edinburgh and Perth." The Irish actor Thomas Sheridan (1719-88) was the godson of Swift; his son would gain fame as one of the great playwrights of the day. This is Volume XIX only of the set of twenty-four, consisting of Swift's letters. Very Good condition. Gray paper binding, with paper labels on the spine. Unusual to find in soft boards; most editions have survived with leather binding. Clean text; ix, 289 pages. Some light spotting throughout. Faint contemporary signature on the front paste-down. Rubbed heavily with chipping on the spine, where the cover is starting to split. Later Printing. Soft Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
