A uniformly bound in the original publishers boards of this uncommon edition of Thomas Moore's definitive collection of the works of Lord Byron. An exhaustive and definitive collection. Complete in Seventeen Volumes. Includes the engraved frontis and title pages from the 1832-1833 first edition. With a Seacome and Prichard Booksellers label to the front pastedowns. Thomas Moore, 1779-1852, "remained the best qualified person to write a definitive biography and to edit Byron's poetry. He went diligently in search of materials, and received an abundance of letters and anecdotes from those who had known the poet. The title, Letters and Journals of Lord Byron (1830), distracts attention from the skill with which Moore constructed his portrait. "Biography", he told Samuel Rogers, "is like dot engraving, made up of little minute points, which must all be attended to, or the effect is lost" (Letters, 2.608, 21 April 1828). Moore did attend to them, and his biography remains indispensable for students of Byron. His edition of the poetry followed in 18323." (DNB) In full cloth binding with gilt lettering. Externally, rubbed. There is some wear to the extremities, including some bumping and marks, with fading to the spines. Several of the hinges are strained. The front hinge of volume 16 is very strained and may not hold. Internally, the bindings are loose in places. Pages are generally bright with slight browning and the occasional spot and marks, but only prominent to the first and last few pages. There are ink signatures to the front free-endpapers or reverse of the half-title, of most volumes. Good Only.…
