About Rudyard Kipling (1865?1936):
Rudyard Kipling was one of the most celebrated authors of the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, known for his evocative storytelling and lyrical mastery. Born in Bombay, India, and educated in England, Kipling?s works captured the complexity of empire, identity, and adventure. He became the first English-language writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature (1907), honored for his keen observation, imagination, and narrative power.
Among his best-known works are The Jungle Book, Kim, and Just So Stories, but his short fiction ? much of which appears in this Edition de Luxe ? remains some of the most vibrant writing of its time, blending exotic settings with universal human emotion.
Synopsis of the Collection:
This ten-volume Jefferson Press Edition gathers some of Kipling?s most iconic works, charting his evolution from journalist and storyteller to master of prose and verse.
?Plain Tales from the Hills? and ?Soldiers Three? reveal the humor and irony of British-Indian life.
?The Phantom ?Rickshaw? and ?Mine Own People? explore psychological depth and supernatural nuance.
?Letters of Marque? offers travel impressions and cultural portraits from colonial India.
?The Light That Failed? stands as a haunting meditation on love, loss, and artistic vision.
?Poems, Ballads and Other Verses? encapsulate his lyrical range ? from heroic to deeply introspective.
Together, these volumes form an essential portrait of the imperial imagination and the inner world of one of literature?s most distinctive voices.
