xiv, 220 pp. (includes 20 plates), 4to, quarter crimson morocco, gilt title on spine, crimson linen cloth sides. English poet John Chalkhill (c. 1595-1642) was the writer of two fishing songs that appear in Izaak Walton's Compleat Angler (Walton also authored the preface to Chalkhill's 3,000-line pastoral poem Thealma and Clearchus [1683]). This volume includes a study of Chalkhill - the man, the poet, and his work as well as texts of his works. Robert S Pirie's copy, with his name printed in red in the roll of Roxburghe Club members. This volume elegantly designed by Ron Gordon at The Oliphant Press. As new. Barker 264.
