A collection of the works of Francis Rabelais. Illustrated throughout by W. Heath Robinson. François Rabelais c. 1494 9 April 1553) was a major French Renaissance writer, doctor, Renaissance humanist, monk and Greek scholar. He has historically been regarded as a writer of fantasy, satire, the grotesque, bawdy jokes and songs. His best known work is Gargantua and Pantagruel. Rabelais is considered one of the great writers of world literature and among the creators of modern European writing. Translated from the French into English. Complete in two volumes. In cream cloth bindings with gilt detailing. Externally, sound, though with some marks and discolouration to the spines. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Pages are bright and clean, with just some foxing to the first and last few pages as usual. Very Good.
