About the Author: Cathy J. Scott is Professor of Accounting and Accounting Department Chair at Navarro College. She has received the 2014 Texas Society of CPAs Outstanding Accounting Educator Award, the 2012-2013 American Accounting Association Educator of the Year, and the Two-Year College and the 2010 Navarro College's Teaching of Excellence Award. Dr. Scott earned her bachelor's degree from Nazareth College, MBA from Amberton University, a post-graduate accounting degree from Keller Graduate School of Management, and her PhD from Capella University. Prior to joining academics, Dr. Scott had a 25-year accounting career in the automotive industry. She remains a popular speaker in accounting and financial management for vehicle manufacturers and dealer associations. She has written numerous accounting-related articles for automotive publications. Dr. Scott is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants, Teachers of Accounting at Two-Year Colleges (TACTYC), the American Accounting Association (AAA), National Business Educators Association (NBEA) and Texas Community College Association (TCCTA). She has held regional and national positions with the American Accounting Association, including Secretary of the Two-Year College section and co-coordinator of the Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Southwest Region. She is a board member for TACTYC and has held various roles with TCCTA, including past chair for the accounting section. Dr. Scott is a frequently requested speaker and is passionate about effective online learning and innovative teaching technology. She is co-founder of Teaching and Learning Toolbox (www.teachingandlearningtoolbox.com), a free website that helps educators connect technology and pedagogy. In her free time, Dr. Scott enjoys spending time with her family on her farm in North Texas, where she raises and shows Arabian horses.
