Print on Demand. This book examines the lives and working conditions of shop assistants in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The author, an active member of the Amalgamated Union of Co-operative Employees, provides a thorough examination of the lives of these workers, revealing the harsh realities of long hours, low pay, and a lack of basic benefits. The author also highlights the growing disparity between the small, independent traders and the emerging corporate giants, who increasingly dominated the retail landscape. The book provides a valuable historical perspective on the experiences of shopworkers, shedding light on the exploitation and hardship faced by those who served the growing consumer culture of the time. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
