Sometimes they take, sometimes they don't - and even when they do, the feeling doesn't always follow. Most of us are longing for a more satisfying, fulfilling life, yet aren't quite sure what keeps getting in the way.
We've tried to make changes. Sometimes they take, sometimes they don't — and even when they do, the feeling doesn't always follow. Underneath it all is a yearning to be more, to have more, to live and love more fully than we currently do. Some days that feels right around the corner. Other days, impossibly far away.
This book calls that gap self-forgetting — the quiet, automatic losing of contact with our true nature, not chosen but learned. And it offers something rarer than another strategy for change: a way back.
The Inner Work of Love and Action draws on the Enneagram not as a personality system but as a path of awakening. Theresa A. Gale traces the nine distinct ways we lose ourselves, and the nine corresponding paths home. Through embodied practices, contemplative meditations, and the lived stories of people who have walked this path, she accompanies the reader from self-forgetting to self-remembering, from self-remembering into Presence, and from Presence into Love.
It is not a book of answers. It is a companion for the journey inward that quietly transforms the life you are living.
This book is for you if:- You sense a gap between the life you are living and the one you know is possible
- You are familiar with the Enneagram and ready to go deeper than personality
- You are drawn to contemplative practice and want a path that is both embodied and practical
- You are a leader, entrepreneur, or caregiver who has been giving everything to others while losing contact with yourself
- You have asked — even quietly, even once — where did I go?
What you will find inside:
- Guided meditations for each of the nine Enneagram types
- Breath practices, body-centered practices, and the Three Centers check-in
- Two original movement practices — Embodying Presence and Embodying Love
- Lived journey stories from real people who have walked this path
- Reflection questions for each type
- Audio recordings and guided meditations accessible through QR codes
"Beneath the pattern, beneath the forgetting, beneath everything — the life you are longing for has been here all along. Waiting. Quietly. For you to remember who you have always been."
