We live in a world that makes us believe that anything is possible. You can be a top performer at work, a patient parent, a supportive friend, a frequent gym visitor, and an eager community volunteer. We can have it all, right?
The reality is that we can’t. There are only so many hours in one day, and our energy is limited. Solving this puzzle by calculating how much time or energy you can spend in each role is unsuccessful. Soon enough, you realize you need more days in the week or duplicate yourself.
In Work-Life Strategy, Lieke ten Brummelhuis, a Professor of Management, takes a different perspective. Human beings have three psychological needs: to feel in control, competent, and connected. These needs are key ingredients for people to feel happy. Work-Life Strategy explains how you can strategically use your life roles to fulfill the three needs and find happiness.
Work-Life strategy is an excellent choice for those who want to be present in two roles equally (working parents) and those who prioritize one role over others (career investors, stay-at-home parents). Through hands-on exercises, the book helps you design your own work-life strategy to navigate your complex life successfully.
Praise for Work-Life Strategy
“If you ever feel overwhelmed by work and life, this is an evidence-based, actionable guide to moving toward better balance and more harmony.”
~Adam Grant, #1 New York Times bestselling author of THINK AGAIN and HIDDEN POTENTIAL, and host of the podcast Re:Thinking
"The book’s genius lies in its personalized approach, recognizing that different people require different strategies. This exceptional guide transforms the overwhelming challenge of “having it all” into the achievable goal of “having what matters most.”
~Monique Valcour, Ph.D., Executive Coach, former Professor of Management, Harvard Business Review contributor
