About this Item
8vo., 330 pgs. From the "Illustrated Library of Wonders," a Scribner's series on technology branches that was issued in the latter years of the 19th century. This appearance is likely the first edition in the U.S. of the Samson and Low, England, translation that came out abroad in the same year as the Scribner issue shown here. This is not a reprint, but the original 1871 book. Ex-library state, with "rules" plate pasted to inside front board, and small ingenious card-holder strip left intact on the rear board. No library stamps marking the text pages. A nice period piece, red cloth and solid binding, shelf label on spine, with gold titling there also. The book covers achievements in France, England and Germany, citing technical aspects and giving information on the leading artists and firms. Very good condition (no dust jacket). First U.S. edition, it would appear, but not so stated. Seller Inventory # 1790
