Book Description Garden City Publisdhing Company, Inc. / by arrangement with the Crowell-Collier OPublishing Company, Garden City, 1946. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1946 edition of a cookbook originally copyright 1942. This copy was once damp to top edge: most pages show some rippling to top half-inch and a modest amount of pink staining there, though only a few preliminary and final index pages show a true "tidemark", so call this copy solid, square, still sturdily bound, but nonetheless "good only." Contains many color (and some B&W) plates (tipped-in full-page glossy photographs.) Not only have styles changed in food photography, however, so have our foods: The roast chicken here has a noticeably less full breast (as likely to be seen today mostly on "free-range, no antibiotics" fowl), the broiled steak (with one baked potato indicating this is a single serving) looks like enough to feed three people (given the presence of cucumber, tomatoes, and onion rings), and the cookies and "petit fours" with their sugary frostings in multiple pastel colors look -- pardon us -- downright repulsive. Still, this is the basic, authentic "comfort food" of grandma's America of the 1940s and 1950s . . . and pretty darned thorough! Totals 951 pp. including index. Bookseller Inventory # 006379
