Yonge, Charlotte Mary. Womankind / C. M. Yonge. London: Mozley & Smith, s.d. [circa 1876]. Hardback, Good. Red cloth with blind embossed decoration and bands, gilt lettering to front and spine. Covers a little bumped to corners and spine, sunning to spine and a few marks to surfaces. Binding strong. Brown endpapers. Front pastedown has previous ownership label. Rear endpaper has been torn across with top half missing. Title page absent but no obvious evidence of removal. viii, 327pp. Rough cut pages. Occasional dog-earing, and some dust-staining to edges of page block, otherwise contents clean and bright. Charlotte Mary Yonge (1823 1901) was an English novelist, who wrote in the service of the church. Her abundant books helped to spread the influence of the Oxford Movement and show her keen interest in matters of public health and sanitation. Womankind is an essay on the phases of a woman's life in the mid-nineteenth century - education, place in the family, work inside and outside the home.
