Add to basketArmed with this five-step program for thwarting and coping with bigotry and discrimination, you will have a renewed appreciation for yourself and for others who are perceived as different. The book is broken up into three parts to help you strengthen your self-esteem: The first section consists of personal testimony from the authors, who have dealt with their fair share of racial injustices. You'll see that they have suffered just like you. The next section is made up of short stories demonstrating bigotry, discrimination, and unfairness. Read how a few fictitious characters overcame-or fell prey to-such malice. Finally, the last section is a series of essays exploring every step of this all-important five-point strategy to dealing with bigotry. The most important tool for fending off hate speech is strong self-esteem. The steps in this book will give you the necessary tools to strengthen yours.

Roger and Nicole Brewer are a powerhouse father-daughter duo.
Roger Brewer was born and raised in a rural town in Georgia, where he worked as a sharecropper. In that time and place, social injustices were rampant. There weren’t many, if any, laws protecting the rights of people of color.
Roger served in the US military for four years. Upon finishing his service, he entered law school, where he earned his juris doctor degree.
After spending twenty-nine years as a trial attorney, Roger took early retirement to teach what he’d learned about dealing with bigotry in a healthy way.
Nicole Brewer attended Hollins University in Virginia, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in English and graduated summa cum laude. Attaining her master’s degree from New York University was next on her list.
Nicole is currently Assistant Professor of Foundational English at Goodwin College in Connecticut. She also pursues an interest in music.
