A beautifully rebound very scarce satirical poem by George Wither, a poem that was considered libellous and led to the author's imprisonment. A vanishingly scarce reprint of a work that was impossible to get hold of even in 1814.An 1814 reprint, originally published in 1621.'Wither's Motto' is a satirical poem with the byline 'Nec Habeo, Nec Careo, Nec Curo'.Wither was accused of libel with this work, and he was imprisoned for the second time in his life due to this publication. However, he was released shortly after without a formal trial, working off the plea that the book had been duly licensed.A portrait frontispiece is loosely inserted.Rebound in a quarter morocco binding with marbled paper to the boards.
