From the Back Cover
"Death is the great educator, teaching us how to make life worth living and how to live compassionately with others…With remarkable clarity, personal authority, and kaleidoscopic vision, this book takes us from lessons on dying to suggestions for living with genuine wisdom."
from the foreward by Thomas Moore, author of Care of the Soul
Michael Murphy's is the gentle, skilful hand that soothes the furrowed brow."
Stephen Levine, author of Who Dies?
Death catches us unprepared. Overwhelmed by not knowing what to do or say, we may hold our breath until it passes, only to be consumed later by regrets and suffering.
The Wisdom of Dying is an inspirational guide – for the living and dying as well. Michael Murphy interweaves the moving stories of those who have met death and those who have accompanied them, with the ancient myth and legend, and insights gained from his decades of experience in guiding others on their journey towards death. With an emphasis on the joyful, liberating aspects of death, he reveals how we can:
• Focus on our conscious dying to open ourselves to more conscious living
• Listen to our inner feelings and to those of the people we love
• change patterns of relationships to enhance our connection with ourselves and others
• Use the powerful models of storytelling, myth and ritual
• Finish what needs to be finished – let go of what needs to be let go
