If anyone should write a book it should be Willie Kell. From bathing in the creek with the frogs back on "grandmaw's farm" as a child, growing up to sell home-cooked medicine, then becoming a famous horse race caller at the tracks, on radio and TV, Willie has done it all. In fact when his children taught him to play guitar, he became a Nashville songwriter and recording artist. Willie's life is packed with adventure, and he tells it all in this book.
WILLIE was the fifth child of an artistic God fearing mother and a handsome horse-trading father, who later became a medicine man. WILLIE's mother died when he was six; when his daddy found a new young love, WILLIE went to live on "grandmaw's farm" until "Maw" died when he was ten. WILLIE tells of those childhood years on the farm, reliving the time he stumbled onto the nude lovers back at the creek, the sexy hired girl he sometimes had to sleep with and the big car-theft ring-leader that hid upstairs until the police came and took him away. He tells how at just 14, he left home for good, working as a bellhop then desk clerk in a family owned hotel, where he learned about girls, homosexuals, drunks and drug addicts.
After a stint in the army he married his sweetheart, Irene, and soon followed his father's rambling ways, selling that "stove-cooked wonder medicine" and buggy horses to the Amish folks. He recalls the $200.00 "Cinderella" horse he and Irene bought and trained to win a big race!
In his time WILLIE has met and talked with Prime Ministers, governors, and became acquainted with some of Hollywood's biggest movie stars and some of the world's great musicians, writers and entertainers. He remembers so well, Sir Alec Guiness, Sir Tyrone Guthrie, the great director, then there was Irene Worth and several more. WILLIE has hung out with hobos, drifters and "rounders" and even talked with the "HANGMAN", when he was on his way to hang a young man for murder!
WILLIE worked with his three children and watched them become big in music as songwriters and recording artists. Then he followed in their footsteps to become a NASHVILLE published songwriter and recording artist himself.
An absolutely true and incredible story of one man's life, WILLIE makes readers laugh, cry and wonder how he did it all and live to tell about it.
