This is an especially fine book for third and fourth graders, full of rich pictures and engaging story telling, bringing the Old Testament to life. Used in Waldorf schools as a reader and as a read aloud at home for many families. The Biblical stories retold in this book are based on the Old Testament. They connect the reader with the pictures and events that contributed to the forming of Western culture at the beginning. They are the stories of Solomon, Elijah, Tobias, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Nehemiah, Jonah, Heliodorus, Job, Judas Maccabeus, and John the Baptist.

Jakob Streit is a master storyteller and long time Waldorf teacher with a deep understanding of the needs of children at different stages of their development. He could answer children's questions and quiet their concerns before they were even fully formulated with his tales. All his stories fill the soul with wonder and courage and amazement at the things life brings and the gifts we give back! This story is no exception and offers reminders for children (and us all) of the power of love to transform any life and our earth.
