32 pages, quality hardback in very good condition, in original dust jacket. Book is clean, bright, and lovely overall, with slight wear to edges as normal for age. Dust jacket is good, with some edge wear and slight chipping. A very nice, gift-quality copy of this scarce illustrated children's title. Wildebeest is a thoughtful animal picture book by Franz Berliner, illustrated by Lilian Brøgger / Brogger, telling a modern "why" story about the wildebeest and how he came to be called gnu. The story follows an unhappy wildebeest who dislikes his awkward body and believes he was made from leftover parts, but through hunger, discovery, and compassion, he learns the value of sharing with others. Beautifully illustrated, warmly told, and full of charm, the book combines animal folklore, identity, self-acceptance, humor, kindness, and moral storytelling in a way that appeals to children and collectors of unusual picture books alike. A good book to enjoy, read aloud, collect, and keep on hand, especially for readers interested in animal tales, African-inspired folklore, illustrated children's literature, and meaningful stories with heart. ~ It would make a great gift for the fan in your life, even if that's you. …
