Why does a world capable of extraordinary progress remain troubled by war, injustice, anxiety, suffering and death?
Why Is the World Like This? presents a clear, chronological explanation based on the Bible’s central account—from the creation of the earth and the beginning of human rebellion to Jesus Christ, God’s Kingdom and the promised restoration of all things.
Written for readers who want satisfying answers without sensational predictions, the book considers:
- What the earth and human life were originally intended to become
- Why God has permitted suffering and human independence
- How Jesus’ life and ransom relate to humanity’s future
- What the Bible means by “the world” and “the last days”
- How God’s Kingdom will accomplish what human governments cannot
- The resurrection, the restoration of the earth and the eventual end of death
The book also explains the biblical name Jehovah in a natural and verifiable way. Readers are shown how many English Bibles represent the Hebrew name YHWH by printing LORD in small capitals.
A carefully balanced discussion of John 1:1 examines the nuances of the original Greek, showing why translation involves grammar, context and informed judgement rather than simply replacing one ancient word with one English word.
This is an independent work of Bible commentary. Readers are encouraged to examine every cited passage in their own Bible and consider how the complete Scriptural account answers the questions raised by present world conditions.
