CHAPTER 1
It was a beautiful sunny day. Mikey was sitting in his front yard looking up into the sky. The sky was very blue today! Around the corner came Mikey's best friend Natalie. She said, "What do you see?" Mikey turned his head to look at her and smiled. He then again looked at the sky and asked, "Why is the sky blue?" Natalie responded, "I do not know. We should ask our parents why the sky is blue."
At dinner that evening, Mikey turned to his parents and asked, "Why is the sky blue?" His mother thought for a moment and then she said, "The sky is blue because it is the color of God's eyes." Mikey could not wait to tell Natalie what he had learned from his mother.
Natalie was very quiet at the dinner table. Her mother asked, "Why are you so quiet?" Natalie asked in a very low voice, "Why is the sky blue?" Her mother thought for a minute and said, "The sky is blue just like the color of the water in the lake." Natalie was happy she had the answer.
The next morning, Mikey opened his eyes when the sunlight filled his room. He quickly jumped out of bed. He made his bed. He walked down to the kitchen. His mother was preparing his breakfast. He sat down. His mother noticed a big smile on Mikey's face. She said, "Why do you have a big smile?" Mikey said, "I cannot wait to see Natalie to tell her why the sky is blue." His mother smiled and gave him a big hug.
Natalie was waiting for her mother in the kitchen. Her mother said, "Why are you up so early?" Natalie said, "I must tell Mikey about the sky." Her mother was happy to see the joy in Natalie's face. Natalie ate her breakfast quickly and asked her mother, "Can I go now?" Her mother smiled and, with a big smile, said, "Go, go and have fun!"
Natalie rushed out of the house. She turned the corner on the path and saw her friend Tami. Tami asked, "Why are you in such a hurry?" Natalie said, "Mikey and I were looking at the sky. We wanted to know why the sky is blue." Tami said, "I asked my mother the same thing this morning." Natalie asked, "What did she say?" Tami said, "My mother said the sky is blue because it is the color of the wind."
Natalie said, "My mother said it was the color of water." Both girls looked at the sky and were confused. Tami said, "We should tell Mikey." They both started running to find Mikey.
There was a loud knock on the door. Mikey opened the door, and Tami and Natalie asked, "Did you ask?" Mikey looked very happy. He said, "Yes, my mother said the sky is the color of God's eyes." The girls looked confused. Mikey did not know what to do. Mikey looked at his mother, and he said, "We are going out to play." His mother waved at them as they walked down the path.
As the three of them were walking down the path, they saw their friend Howie running toward them. Howie stopped and asked, "Why do you all look so sad?" Mikey said, "We were all wondering why the sky is blue. We asked our mothers. The answers from our parents were not the same." Howie said, "My father will know." Howie turned and ran back to his house.
Howie ran in the front door and almost knocked his father down. His father asked, "Why are you so excited?" Howie said, "I told my friends that you would know why the sky is blue." Howie's father looked at him and said, "The sun mixes with the night sky to make the sky blue." Howie said, "Thank you, Dad," and he ran out the door.
Howie was gone only a short time when he came running back. Mikey, Natalie, and Tami could see the big smile on Howie's face. Howie could not stop in time and ran into Mikey, and they both fell down. Howie looked at his three friends. He said with a big smile, "The sun mixes with the night sky to make the sky blue." Mikey, Natalie, and Tami put their face in their hands. Howie asked, "What is wrong?" Mikey looked up and said, "All the answers from our parents are different." Tami asked, "What do we do?"
