Add to basketNiapachad Island is a land untouched by time-where whispered legends, long-lost customs, and eerie mysteries linger in the air like a forgotten lullaby. The people are strange in both dress and manner, living under the weight of a bygone social order where the gentry still hold power. With its breathtaking vistas, haunting operas, and lavish balls, the island offers much to explore-if you dare. But beware: beauty often hides the darkest of truths, and not every fantasy leads to a happy ending.
Lady Emily Moore has grown weary of her cold, lonely life within the rigid walls of nobility. Desperate for escape, she disguises herself as a commoner and takes a position as a maid in the estate of the enigmatic Marquess of Kain. For the first time in her life, she feels free-until she realizes the grand manor holds more than just elegant halls and hidden staircases. It holds secrets.
Marquess Dorian Hassildor has always done his duty. Now, the Higher Court demands he marry and produce an heir. He never expected to find his answer among the staff-until one maid, with her grace and refinement far beyond her station, captures his attention. Suspicion turns to certainty as he uncovers her true identity. And with that truth comes a decision: he will make her his.
But when tragedy strikes and a horrific truth about the gentry is laid bare before Emily's eyes, she must decide-should she run from the life she once escaped, or stay and face the darkness with the man who may hold her heart? Will love survive the secrets that bind them, or will Niapachad Island claim yet another soul?
Nikki Larousse, who was reared in northeastern Malaysia, has always been enthralled with mythology from all around the world. She would always return to the escapism she found in writing things down, even if she had to focus on reality and pursue her higher education and work-life balance on the side. The majority of her creations are rooted in notorious Western myths, legends, and folklore. She does, however, also incorporate Malay folklore from her cultural background into her stories. So, if you dare to dream of cunning heroes and fierce heroines who battle together to achieve their happily ever-afters, enter her realms of Larouverse.
