From the Publisher
Dr. Ken Goldberg explains the most common male health issues to women—and shows them practical ways to help their "bulletproof men" live longer and better.
If the man you love were running up the stairs and felt twinges in his chest, would he just shrug them off? Has it been years since he had a complete checkup? Does he smoke or eat a lot of fast food? Does he have problems with erections? Many evenings, does he fall asleep in his easy chair? Does he think that real men tough out their aches and pains?
If many of the answers are yes, he is typical. Most men fail to follow a healthy lifestyle and have important tests and exams. If your man’s not taking good care of himself, before long he is going to be a reluctant visitor to the doctor, whether he likes it or not. And you’ll suffer, too—from the worrying, from exhaustion as you become his caregiver, and from high medical bills.
Though it may seem that men will never change, Dr. Ken Goldberg has found that they can learn to take better care of themselves. At the Men’s Health Institute, the nation’s first health center specializing in health care for men, this visionary physician has found many ways to help men change their ways—particularly with the support of their partners. In this groundbreaking book, Dr. Goldberg passes along medical information and practical suggestions that can help you make a difference for your man.
The topics covered include:
* Understanding why he’s in denial about his health
* Preparing him for a check-up so that it will be a positive experience
* Learning self-tests and partner exams
* Watching for symptoms his doctor should check out
* Helping him eat better, exercise, stop smoking, and get a good night’s sleep
* Taking action when he has more than the blues, or more than a temper
* Moving beyond male myths about sex
* Mastering the changes of middle life
* Exploring the latest treatments for erection problems, enlarged prostate, and other guy troubles
* Facing heart disease, cancer, and other health problems together
Presenting authoritative medical information in a lively, realistic, and supportive way, this unique resource addresses the full spectrum of health issues facing all the men in your life, not only your husband or partner, but also your father, father-in-law, or son.
If you love him, help him be healthy, happy, and headed for a hundred.

"In a loving relationship, you need to share the responsibility for each other’s wellness and vitality, so if you want to ensure that your man will be around for a long time (and that he will never need Viagra), arm him with the knowledge in this book. When the Man You Love Won’t Take Care of His Health tells you what you need to know about men’s health and shows you the best ways to get that information through to him—for your sake and for his." —Dr. Steven Lamm, author of The Virility Solution and Younger at Last
"I read Dr. Goldberg’s book, and I am amazed by the breadth of his knowledge and his commonsense, no-nonsense approach to health. If it encourages men (or the women in their lives) to deal with health problems before they become health crises, I am sure it will do a world of good." —Michael Korda, author of Man to Man
"Ken Goldberg has given us a truly helpful, practical guide to men’s health. This is a much-needed book that will benefit both women and men. I will recommend it to friends as well as to clients. It’s that good." —Bernie Zilbergeld, Ph.D., author of The New Male Sexuality
From the Foreword by Gail Sheehy
"The lengths to which men will go to deny any sign of weakness in their bodies never cease to amaze me. To whom does the task fall, then, to take care of a man’s health? To the save-your-life wife. . . . A sound, practical, effective guide to maintaining your man’s health."
