About this Item
the attraction of this book is its binding and this copy clearly illustrates why a dust jacket is an essential element of a book. the beautifully decorated boards look like they just rolled off the presses as binding is only marred by minor edge wear at extremeties which a dust jacket can not protect. interior pages are crisp probably never turned as this copy was intended to be kept forever in beautiful condition by owner whose name appears in beautiful denillion on the ffep; she stamps it in red on the inside cover march 9, 1907. Intriguing is that on the very next blank page is the signature of what appears to be another family member ( same last name and dated March 9, 1907 )in a beautiful calligraphic style. it is assumed that there is a handwriting contest going on as these are clearly two different Myers. . the only other marking to this Fine copy is that same date stamp on the inside cover. Adding to this book's oddity is the dust jacket which is a tan paper jacket replication of the pictorial binding but in two colors tan and brown. It is Grosset & Dunlap wrapper that advertises Macmillan's standard library on the back and the back inside flap. the jacket is chipped (no major large ones) and is clear and distinguishable. now wrapped in mylar. Priced higher because of the condition and look of the binding, and a rare and unusual dust jacket that most everyone would have thrown away to showcase the beautifil green cloth gilt decorated binding.
